Position: Post-doctoral Research Fellow
(a.k.a. Director of Research, KIPP School Leadership Program)
Overview:
The Stanford Educational Leadership Institute (SELI) and the Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP) Foundation are engaging in a new partnership to redesign, expand, and deliver the KIPP School Leadership Program (KSLP). KIPP is a network of free open-enrollment college-preparatory public schools in under-resourced communities throughout the United States. In recent years, KIPP schools have received national attention for their success in boosting student academic performance and closing the achievement gap. The goal of the KIPP School Leadership Program is to train outstanding educators and provide them with support to successfully establish their own KIPP Schools. In recent years, KSLP has expanded to also train rising leaders from within KIPP schools, as well as founders and leaders of other charter schools and charter management organizations. With a growing reputation and an expanding clientele, KIPP sought out a university partner to play an important role in redesigning the KSLP. As an organization designed and poised to address school leadership challenges, SELI was ideally suited to meet KIPP’s emerging development needs. Through this partnership, SELI and KIPP will: engage in a project to revamp the structure, content, and methodological design of the KSLP; incorporate the latest research and practices in school reform, instructional leadership, and adult learning; utilize the talents of the highest quality instructors in organizational leadership and other related topics from Stanford and other leading institutions around the country; expand the content base and best practices in the field—for scholars, practitioners, and communities nationwide; and develop a research and development agenda around the leadership, management, and improvement of charter management organizations in the United States.

- Collect, analyze and manage both quantitative and qualitative data;
- Manage internship placements for students from the joint GSB-SUSE program within the KIPP research initiatives; and
